“Guitar replaced BMX as my main obsession overnight. It was unlike anything I’d ever done; it was a form of expression as satisfying and personal to me as art and drawing, but much deeper level. Being able to create the sound that spoken to me in music ever since I can remember was more empowering than anything I’d ever known. The change was as instantaneous as turning on a light, and every bit is illuminating.”
“Finding guitar was like finding myself; it defined me, it gave me purpose. It was a creative outlet that allowed me to understand myself. The turmoil of my adolescence was suddenly secondary; playing guitar gave me focus. I didn’t keep journal; I couldn’t seem to vocalizing my feeling in a constructive fashion, but the guitar gave me emotional clarity. I loved to draw; that was an activity that took my mind off things, but it wasn’t enough of a veichle for me to completely express myself. I’ve always envied the artist who could express themselves through art, and only through the guitar have I come to understand what a wonderful release it is.”

- from SLASH - Slash's biography
